Crop Pest Alert: Peanut, Vegetable, and Hemp Insect Pests

As many crops are close to harvest, normally, treatment for insect pests may not make sense. However, drought conditions in the eastern half of the state have worsened in recent weeks, which is favorable for both chewing and sucking insect pests.

Nearly 83 percent of the state is abnormally dry. Five percent of the state is in extreme drought. Dr. Ayanava Majumdar, an Alabama Extension agronomic crops and commercial horticulture specialist, has been tracking insect pest numbers to help producers make informed decisions during the drought.
